Zhu Sheng Niang Niang, also known as the Goddess of Childbirth in Taoism, is a deeply revered deity who governs fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, and the well-being of mothers and children. Often portrayed holding a registry book and a brush, she records the birth and destiny of every child—symbolizing divine oversight over family lineage and generational blessings.
She is especially worshipped by couples hoping to conceive, expectant mothers praying for a safe delivery, and families seeking virtuous and healthy offspring. Serving alongside her are twelve celestial maidens, each dedicated to watching over children from infancy to adolescence, offering protection, guidance, and growth in their formative years.
Her sacred birthday falls on the 20th day of the 3rd lunar month. On this auspicious day, devotees gather to offer prayers and gifts, seeking blessings for fertility, smooth pregnancies, family harmony, and performing compassionate rituals to liberate unborn or infant spirits.
As the ancient saying goes, “有德之家,必有子孙延续” — A virtuous family will surely have descendants. It is believed that those who cultivate virtue and devotion will be graced by her blessings, ushering in joyful parenthood, thriving lineage, and a prosperous household.
